St. Tropez, the sun-drenched jewel of the French Riviera, is where Brigitte Bardot once made waves, and the rosé flows like poetry. My romantic weekend in St. Tropez last Spring was a testament to its allure. As a redhead, the beach isn't my usual haunt, but the charm of St. Tropez won me over. This former fishing village turned luxury hotspot is a unique blend of glamour and charm—a romantic escape here feels like stepping into an endless summer dream. Here is your travel guide to St. Tropez; it is ideal for honeymooners and lovers of all things chic.

How to Get to St. Tropez

Getting to St. Tropez is part of the allure—it's a destination for those who appreciate the scenic route. Please note that taking a train is not an option. (The train question is often the first one that comes to mind when thinking about St. Tropez.) My husband and I chose to arrive in style, taking a luxury yacht from Monte Carlo to St. Tropez, and had a private driver take us to Nice at the end of our trip. This exclusive mode of travel sets the tone for the exclusivity and privilege that St. Tropez offers.

Closest Airports:

  • Nice Côte d’Azur Airport (NCE) – ~1.5 to 2-hour drive

  • Toulon-Hyères Airport (TLN) – ~1.5-hour drive, smaller and quieter

  • Private Jet Setters: La Môle – Saint-Tropez Airport (LTT) is the closest, but mostly for private flights.

By Car:

Renting a car from Nice or Marseille gives you flexibility and the chance to soak in those Côte d'Azur coastal views.

By Boat:

Feeling fancy? During summer, luxury yacht cruises from Cannes, Nice, and Italy are très chic.

Best Time to Travel

St. Tropez is a year-round destination. While the Winter is much calmer and less expensive, it will be too cold to enjoy the beach, so I recommend traveling during the following windows:

  •  Late May to Early October is peak magic.

  • July & August: Buzzy and glamorous, but crowded and $$$.

  • June & September: Chef's kiss. It's still lively but calmer and a touch more romantic.

  • Spring (May) or Fall (October): Quieter, more intimate, and still drenched in sunshine.

Things to See and Do

For a small and secluded French city, St. Tropez offers many top-flight restaurants, shops, and things to see and do. Most activities revolve around the beach, but there was enough fun away from the shore to keep you busy. I recommend a minimum of three nights in St. Tropez.

Pampelonne Beach

Where the elite come to tan and toast. Think white sands, glam beach clubs (hello, Club 55), and azure waters. Reserve a sunbed and sip rosé like a Riviera icon.

Nikki Beach St. Tropez

Nestled on the iconic Pampelonne Beach, Nikki Beach is the epitome of Riviera chic. Since its debut in 2002, this luxurious beach club has been a magnet for international jet-setters, celebrities, and lovers of the sun-soaked lifestyle. Every client I have sent to St. Tropez has wanted to visit the iconic Nikki Beach. All of them were very complimentary.

Old Port (Vieux Port)

Yachts, gelato, and pastel-hued buildings, what's not to love? Wander hand-in-hand while pretending you're in a rom-com.

 La Ponche Quarter

The historic heart of St. Tropez. Cobblestone alleys, quiet cafes, and art galleries—it's all very "let's get lost together."

Citadel of St. Tropez

A little uphill walk leads to sweeping views of the Mediterranean and the town below. Plus, it's a prime make-out spot. (You're welcome.)

 Musée de l'Annonciade

This converted chapel hits the sweet spot if you love impressionist art and boutique-sized museums.

Local Markets

Tuesdays and Saturdays at Place des Lices—grab picnic goodies (cheese, olives, fresh bread) and find your seaside picnic spot.

Where to Stay

My husband and I spent two nights at Château de la Messardière and one night at Cheval Blanc. Both were stunning, and I highly recommend them. The chateau is not on the beach, so we chose to stay in two hotels. My husband is a beach guy; travel mixed marriages can work!

Château de la Messardière – Perched on a hillside overlooking Pampelonne Bay and the vineyards below, this 19th-century château-turned-luxury-resort is straight out of a fairytale. Think dreamy suites, an incredible Valmont spa, gourmet restaurants, and a private beach club. It's also part of Airelles Hotel Brand, so you know you're in pampered hands. Bonus: complimentary Mini Mokes or Rolls-Royce transfers into town. Because… St. Tropez.

Cheval Blanc St-Tropez – Cheval Blanc offers sleek luxury, a private beach, Michelin-starred dining, and a spa that will make you feel like Riviera royalty. The resort's beach is lovely and has plenty of

Hotel Byblos – Iconic, colorful, and fabulously over-the-top, Hotel Byblos is one of St. Tropez's loveliest resorts. Choose this hotel if you want to hobnob with the rich and famous. It is a favorite of celebrities and lovers of retro glam.

Villa Cosy Hotel & Spa – Villa Cosy offers boutique vibes and an intimate atmosphere. It is just far enough from the bustle to feel like a retreat. Perfect for anyone who desires seclusion and the perfect spot to...get cozy.

Pan Dei Palais – Do you seek sartorial splendor? Well, I have got a hotel for you! Pan Dei Palais has a dedicated team who are on hand to arrange seamless shopping experiences in the nearby boutiques, whilst those who need to feel the sand between their toes can take advantage of the private beach club, a must-visit spot to marvel at the iconic coastline.

Romantic Places to Steal a Kiss

  • At Sunset on the Ramparts of the Citadel – Golden hour + sea views = pure cinematic romance.

  • On a Yacht in the Bay of St. Tropez – Charter a boat (or just flirt with someone who has one 😘) and steal a kiss with the wind in your hair.

  • During a Midnight Stroll in La Ponche – Lantern-lit alleys, the smell of jasmine, and the sound of waves—honestly, it's like kissing in a perfume commercial.

  • On a Secluded Spot at Pampelonne Beach – Sneak away from the clubs and find your patch of sand to whisper sweet nothings.

  • At a Rosé Tasting in a Local Vineyard (like Château Minuty) – Wine is flowing, cheeks are flushed…what happens in the vines, stays in the vines.

St.Tropez is a stunning spot for a romantic luxury getaway. You can soak up the Vitamin D while being treated like an A-lister. I hope this guide inspires you on your journey to the South of France.
